about... Wartime News
|
- Since the launch of Wartime News in 1995, its
popularity has grown, with
editions now mailed to a wide readership around the UK and overseas.
Each issue of this quarterly publication features personal
reminiscences of the Second World War, many being published for the
first time. Events that made news headlines over 65 years ago are being
told today and are timely reminders of the tremendous struggle to
overthrow the Nazi domination of Europe.
Written by the
veterans themselves, Wartime News
features their experiences
of war, many as very young men and women, never having left home
before. Those memories are so strong and clear today and can only be
described by those who were there, some enduring the harshest
conditions imaginable.
- Wartime News readers
are people of all ages but primarily veterans. They live in all
parts of Great Britain, from Lands End to John O'Groats. We also
have readers and contributing authors living in Europe as well as
Australia, Canada and the USA. Some manage wartime associations
whilst other are readers, just like you!
People from all
walks of life contribute to Wartime
News. We don't just
feature major battles like Dunkirk, El Alamein and the Italian
Campaign. All stories are unique written by ordinary men and women who
were drawn into this conflict.
Stories from PoWs, WAAFs, ENSA, Bomb
Disposal, fighter crews, merchant seamen, and those back home like the
Land Army, Civil Defence and Home Guard - the list is endless!
However, our
readers also recall the good times, the camaraderie that exisited
throughout the war, the concert parties, meeting loved ones - all this
making the perfect combination for a trip down 'Memory Lane'. So many
times, readers say, "my story may not be of much interest..." but how
wrong they are as everyone has a story to tell about those dark days.
Wartime News also
features:
We'll
Meet Again - a column of association reunions and commemorative

Yesteryear - Newspaper cuttings
