GERMAN INVASION PLANS FOR THE BRITISH ISLES 1940

Immediately after the fall of France in June 1940, Hitler ordered his generals to organise a plan for the invasion of Britain, code-named Operation Sealion, to land 160,000 soldiers along a 40-mile stretch of SE England. This book brings together a selection of these documents and reproduces them in a handy-sized format. It includes aerial photographs of strategic sites, maps of the main urban centres with identified targets and advice for officers about how to mount an attack on each county. The book gives a remarkable insight into how the German army planned to invade Britain.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR BRITISH SERVICEMEN IN FRANCE 1944

In 1944 the British War Office distributed a handbook to British soldiers informing them what to expect and how to behave in a newly-liberated France. Containing candid descriptions of this war-ravaged society (widespread malnourishment, rampant tuberculosis), as well as useful phrases and a pronunciation guide (Bonjewer, commont-allay-voo), it was an indispensable guide to everyday life. But this small and unassuming publication had a deeper purpose: to bring together two Allies who did not enjoy ideal relations in 1944.

This extraordinary booklet was intended to educate soldiers on a range of topics, including German history, the national character, politics, culture, food and drink, currency, and to explain the current situation, including the effect of war on Germany and German attitudes to the British. But he’d blown up the wrong bridge and disobeyed orders.

Evader is one of the most remarkable stories ever to come out of WWII.
In September 1943, Denys Teare baled out of his burning Lancaster bomber over Occupied France; and became an evader in the midst of the enemy. Continually thwarted in his escape attempts, he was a doubly wanted man - not only a British airman evading the occupying force, but also an active member of the French Resistance. This book tells what it was really like living in France under the Nazis, and of what liberation really meant when it came.
